and two or three had charm,
but charm and face were in vain,

because the mountain grass
cannot but keep the form
where the mountain hare has lain.

- Memory by William Bulter Yates

“As a putative fact, the second stanza is just false and is really kind of silly. Few living things leave imprints in the grass, let alone permanently. Let alone rabbits. But that’s the contrast between memory and life. The heart holds the form of what it loved long after its love hops away.

The poem shows the texture of memory — assertive and uncertain. “Charm and face were in vain,” but for what and for whom? You can feel the conflict through the sounds: the off-rhymes like memories grasped for (“face” and “grass,” and “charm” and “form”); the end rhyme like memory found (“vain” and “lain”);* “face” and “face” repeated like a memory trace with no image, a lost experience. That’s another way that charm and face are vain, preoccupied by appearances while love remembers just an imprint, not a sight to recall but an absence to fill.”

—Adam Plunkett

* And notice that the poem’s only other true rhymes add to the last line’s sense of recollection — “grass” and “has,” and “where” with the homophonous “hare” whose tresses could leave an imprint only with the weight of memory.

Silence Opens Doors

The only sound I want to hear
Is my beating heart
I want to feel it pulsating
In every cell of my body
Though most of all
I want to feel it in my eyes
So that the outside world
Will know its rhythm
And light a true path

Pelicans Route

And dreaming
Our eyes are wide open

A stare
That runs through the blood of all

History can reveal to our period the forgotten elements of its being just as our parents can recover for us those childhood and ancestral peculiarities which continue to determine our natures tough they are not to be found in our memories. A connection with the past is a prerequisite for the appearance of a new and self-confident tradition.

When John Wanye left, it wasn’t the stars and stripes that appeared, but rather the red ball of the Japanese flag. And while I was falling asleep I had the craziest thought: where I am now is the center of the world. Every shity television set no matter where is the center of the world. The center has become a ludicrus idea and the world as well. An image of the world, a ludicrus idea, the more tv sets there are on the globe. And here I am in the country that builds them all for the whole world so the whole world can watch the American images.

A woman goes to a place to see

She spends so much time there and treats it so well that it loves her

A place as room

Who it sees

How it changes

What it wants to hear, how it wants to be treated

It wants others to visit it, it wants to hear a poem, it wants to hear children

It wants to know itself

It organizes itself so that a conversation of itself will manifest, a truthful conversation

It wants to hear music

Though one may travel a bicycle route hundreds of times, every path is different.

The weather, the people, the smell and taste of the air, the thoughts and emotions the ride provokes.

Like a treasure hunt, I’m interested in discovering the thousands of unique bicycle paths.

A path in a small village or in the country, along a river, lake or ocean.

A path that wallows in the meadow or one that seeps between a city’s skyscraper valleys.

Searching for the perfect Zen bicycle ride: a ride that inspires and brings peace, a ride that is memorable.

A Zen ride involves uncovering mystery as the ride progresses, capturing beauty in the environment, and attaining those rare, fleeting of moments of bliss.

It is eternal.

Vision inhales truth
